Value of monetary incentives you can offer
There is no standard monetary incentive value. The amount you offer will depend on the user group, nature of the research, and other factors.
You should aim to offer the minimum amount necessary to encourage participation. Get advice from research operations, your lead user researcher, or speak to other user researchers who have recruited the same user groups.
If you require the participant to travel to take part in the research, make sure your incentive will cover their costs.
Consistency of amount
Try to offer the same incentive amount to people from the same user groups throughout your research, but don't worry if this isn't always possible.
Examples of where you may not be able to offer consistent incentives:
- you have an urgent need to recruit quickly
- you need to ask one group of participants for a different time commitment to others
- you are finding that one segment of your user population is significantly more difficult to recruit than others
- you are recruiting some participants yourself and others via a third-party recruitment supplier who is offering a higher incentive amount.
